Taking the Plunge: How It All Really Began

So… what happens next?

Well, I took the plunge.

I decided to go out on my own and start working from home. At first, it wasn’t glamorous or perfectly planned — it was simply a small space in the dining room. The kids were there. The dog was there. Life was happening all around me. But somehow, it worked.

I worked hard. Really hard.

Day by day, I built my client base. One appointment led to another, word spread, and before I knew it, I was getting busier and busier. And it felt incredible. That feeling of this is actually working is something I’ll never forget.

It was really happening for me.

As time went on, my husband came up with what he thought was a bright idea.

“Why don’t you convert the shed?”

Absolutely not.

At the time, I thought it was ridiculous. I shut the idea down instantly and wasn’t even prepared to discuss it further. For nearly a year, he kept bringing it up — gently at first, then more persistently. Every single time, my answer was the same: no.

Until one day… something changed.

I acted completely on impulse and ordered a nail desk.

No plan.

No space for it.

No clue where it was even going to go.

Who does that?

But I told myself, It’s fine. I’ll sort it.

When the desk arrived, he looked at me and said,

“So… I take it you’ve changed your mind then?”

“Well… yes,” I replied. “And I’ve got ideas of what I want.”

That response was met with a fair amount of eye-rolling — but deep down, I knew this was the next step. Something had shifted. I was ready to grow, even if it meant stepping outside my comfort zone.

What started in the dining room was slowly becoming something bigger. Something more real. And whether I felt ready or not, it was time to move forward.

Once the decision was made, I got straight to work on the shed.

I knew exactly what I wanted.

Pink.

Gold.

Cladding.

Girly.

And that is exactly what I got.

Every choice reflected me — from the colours to the little details. This wasn’t just a workspace anymore, it was becoming my space. A place that felt special, inspiring, and completely my own.

When everything was finally finished and set up, I remember standing there thinking, this is exactly how I imagined it. Every tool had its place. Every detail felt right. It was perfect.

The first day I worked in there was incredibly special.

I felt proud. I felt accomplished. And honestly? I felt emotional.

This space existed because of the hard work I had put in — but it was also all down to my husband. I couldn’t have done it without him. His belief, his support, and his willingness to turn a “ridiculous idea” into reality meant everything to me.

That little shed wasn’t just a shed anymore.

It was my special place.

A place where my business could grow, where I could focus, and where all the hard work finally felt real. It was proof of how far I’d come — from a corner of the dining room to a space that was truly mine.

And standing there that first day, I knew this was only the beginning.
